Typical Day at Seasons

Through our Expedition Model, our students experience time at our base camp, as well as multi-day wilderness expeditions. The therapeutic activities will vary depending on each setting.

Base Camp

At Seasons, we strategically utilize our beautiful campus as an extension of the treatment process. Time at base camp provides a reprieve from the stressors of the wilderness and offers opportunities to take a warm shower and wash clothing. Therapeutic activities our students participate in at base camp include:

  • Challenge course experiences with our licensed clinicians and trained staff
  • Visits with our therapy certified dogs
  • Optional psycho-educational evaluation with our psychologists
  • Optional psychiatric evaluations with our psychiatrist
  • Opportunities to transfer skills to a more normative environment
  • Individual and group sessions with a therapist
  • Discussion of objectives, progress and individual treatment plans with staff and clinical team
  • Practice primitive skills such as quartz striking, trap building and bow drilling
  • Enjoy time to write letters home, work on growth books, do laundry, and play games

Wilderness Expeditions

Students will participate in multi day wilderness expeditions in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. While maintaining the highest level of clinical awareness and goal driven treatment, our highly trained staff will successfully lead each group through challenging experiences and activities including:

  • Summiting mountains to beautiful overlooks
  • Building and establishing safe campsites
  • Preparing and cooking healthy meals
  • Practicing hygiene and self care
  • Camp and wilderness skills
  • Team building activities and initiatives
  • Visits with our therapy certified dogs
  • Individual and group sessions with a therapist
  • Discussion of objectives, progress and individual treatment plans with staff and clinical team

I went into this program scared out of my mind. At SUWS, I learned the tools I needed to work through my issues and I'm forever grateful.
