A Message from Our Director

Welcome to the SUWS of the Carolinas!

If you are reading this letter, you are likely concerned about the health and well-being of a family member, a loved one, or someone you want to see heal and thrive. Our goal is to provide a life-changing therapeutic wilderness experience for young people who are struggling with a range of self-defeating behaviors.

The SUWS of the Carolinas program is the beginning of a lifetime of change. I believe that we summarize this in our mission statement: “Through the wilderness, we empower families to discover their strengths by creating a safe and consistent environment to restore hope and foster growth.”

For me personally, becoming the executive director at SUWS of the Carolinas was a homecoming of sorts — I began my career as a wilderness therapist in 2005 at SUWS. SUWS’ legacy of helping thousands of families is something I have always been proud of, especially now as I return in this role.

All of us at SUWS of the Carolinas understand that choosing to seek treatment for your loved one can be a big decision. Our goal is to help you find the right treatment for your family — even if it may not be with us. We take our responsibilities seriously, and our entire team is devoted to providing your child with the highest-quality treatment available.

Let’s be clear: The journey of hope and healing is a winding path. I have held the hands of many parents and students who are boldly traveling on the path of growth and healing. Seeing the spark in a teen’s eyes as they feel that they no longer have to let their past define their strength and purpose is truly a joy. Parents and siblings also play a part on those journeys, helping families restore the parts that have been lost and discovering the changes they can make to become the family they want to be. Often, adolescents do not see or understand the powers they have to change their lives, and I find that families are the same way. For me, hope is when our students and families are able to discover the true power inside of them to be the change they want to see in their lives.

My staff and I look forward to working closely with you to ensure that your child’s experience with us is as effective as possible, putting them on the path to a satisfying and successful future.

Thank you for your interest in SUWS of the Carolinas. To learn more about how we are uniquely prepared to meet your child’s needs, please contact us at your convenience by calling (888) 237-1265 or completing the short form on our contact page.

On behalf of the entire SUWS of the Carolinas family, I wish nothing but the best for your child and your family.

The wilderness therapy offered at SUWS was the dynamic solution needed to help my son with his behavioral issues. When my son left SUWS, he was completely changed for the better and also created new bonds and unforgettable memories! I can't recommend SUWS enough for anyone in a similar situation!
