Search & Rescue Focus on Service &
Reinforcement
An essential component of the SUWS philosophy
incorporates the belief that in order to heal from past wounds
and mature into adulthood, it is critical to learn how to
give to others.
All students, regardless of what level they
have achieved, join a search and rescue team the week of their
transition. Individuals are assigned roles with specific responsibilities
that are essential for the team to function. More importantly,
roles are selected to assist students in reinforcing their
newfound skills.
Students respond to hypothetical emergencies
and assume responsibility for assisting in emotional rescues
for students experiencing difficulties within their specific
levels. This enables adolescents to realize a sense of mission
where service, sacrifice, and the giving of self are profoundly
important.
