A comprehensive battery of psychological & educational testing is available as an optional service. A thorough psychological evaluation provides relevant and important information about the student’s current level of functioning, possible emerging psychopathology, any underlying learning issues or strengths and weaknesses, identification of risk factors, and recommendations for maximizing recovery and success, subsequent to graduation from the wilderness program.

At SUWS of the Carolinas, Dr. Sheneen Daniels and Dr. Salli Lewis are the primary contracting psychologists. Both psychologists have extensive clinical experience and expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of child and adolescent mental health disorders and conditions and are fully licensed at the doctoral level by the state of North Carolina. Dr. Daniels’s specialty areas include the evaluation and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, nonverbal learning disorders, learning disabilities, and ADHD. Dr. Lewis’ specialty areas include the evaluation and treatment of traumatic event exposure and related conditions and the provision of empirically-supported treatments. All testing is conducted at the base camp to mimic a quiet office setting but with minimal disruption to the student’s wilderness experience. The following list represents the standard battery.
