“A life-altering experience”

I am a single mother of a now 17 year old daughter who has been enrolled in two Aspen Education Group programs with tremendous success.  Without the aid of these programs she would most likely be in jail and her life would be a terrible mess.

When counseling, abusive out-of-control behavior, wrong choices of friends, drinking, smoking and a run in with the police all culminated, I had my daughter then 16 taken in an intervention to the Aspen Education Group program SUWS of the Carolinas located outside of Asheville, NC. This was a wonderful environment in the wilderness which my daughter experienced for 55 days.  During Camp she learned how to make a fire, erect traps and several other survival skills which challenged her therapeutically in an indirect way. During her stay at SUWS she really began to normalize and address some of her issues.  It was just the beginning of the process and so it was recommended that she then move onto a therapeutic boarding school.  With the help of SUWS staff we selected Copper Canyon Academy located in Rimrock, AZ. 

The maturity and growth that my daughter has developed and is exhibiting is exciting and so encouraging!  For the first time in her life she is experiencing real personal success in having true friendships and having positive interactions with other kids and staff members.  It has definitely been a very positive and life saving experience for her one that will prepare her to move out into the world with the skill set she needs to cope positively.

I miss having her at home with me but realize every day how lucky we are that she has had this opportunity in her life.  It truly has been a life-altering experience for both of us which will allow us to go on and have a healthy, happy relationship together as mother and daughter!
