Certifications & Affiliations

The SUWS Adolescent Program was established in 1981 and became a part of AEG in 1995. SUWS OF THE CAROLINAS Field Supervisors are licensed professional counselors.

SUWS maintains memberships in wilderness program associations, including:
the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP)
the National Association of Therapeutic Wilderness Camps (NATWC)
the Association for Experiential Education.
SUWS of the Carolinas is licensed in the state of North Carolina.

Students receive a curriculum manual on the first day that contains philosophy, practical skill instruction, stories, journal assignments, and history and science lessons. Adolescents are often able to receive transferable credit for completing the SUWS curriculum.
